First of all, thank you so much for your interest in volunteering at Brighton Woods! We are 100% volunteer run so we know exactly how hard it can be to commit to something like this, and we are grateful for every single moment of volunteer time we get! Please read through the various ways we can utilize volunteer efforts!
Brighton Woods does take part-time volunteers now! We understand it’s difficult to commit to two full weeks; so we do accept part time volunteers! It’s easiest for us if you can reserve one full week for Brighton, but even if you have other availability, please don’t hesitate to volunteer!
Volunteering for a minimum of 5 full camp days guarantees placement for your camper(s). Volunteering for 4 or fewer days and out of camp support is valued, but acceptance is dependent on whether our units are fully staffed with the appropriate ratios of adults to children.
We believe that when you get kids together outside, magic happens. We’re so excited to have you joining us to help create magic in the woods!
Unit Leader
Our greatest need is for Unit Leaders! Unit leaders are the backbone of our camp! To be a Unit Leader you’ll need a great attitude, patience, and a wide streak of kindness! Unit leaders spend all day with a unit of campers, usually 20-25 campers. Typically we have 2-3 adults plus several teens so you are never alone; we always try to pair new leaders with more experienced leaders to make things easier for everyone! Plus, our talented and enthusiastic teens are fully capable of leading most activities; you are there in a support role with them. You will be spending your days with that unit of campers leading them through activities like Stone Soup, going to their activities, ice cream, hiking around camp, mascot hunts, and more. We ask our Unit Leaders to communicate with their unit staff in the lead up to camp, so that they can have unit specific activities planned! The more unit leaders we have, the more campers we are able to accept at camp!

Rangers & Pixies Units
Children of volunteers get to come to camp; that includes boys and children under 5! All campers under 5 will have fun in our Pixies unit; they participate in age appropriate camp activities. Older boys (done with Kindergarten) will join our Rangers unit! Most dads who volunteer have a great time leading the Rangers!
Activity Leader
We are always looking for adults who are certified in archery, tomahawks, slingshots, and camp certified to share their skills at camp! We also love anyone who wants to work with our campers in art, knots, knife skills, first aid, and music. If you are someone skilled in one of those areas who’d be interested in leading a special activity with campers, please contact us!
First Aider
This is an incredibly special role! You will get to know everyone in camp! What you need to have are a positive attitude, patience, and some excellent organizational skills. You do not need to be a nurse to fill this role! You do need to be Level 1 or 2 First Aid certified.
Floater
This is a great role for volunteers who can’t be at camp every day! Our floaters go where extra help is needed each day, so they will get to experience different parts of camp. This could mean filling in for a leader who has an emergency, helping out in a unit that could use an extra set of hands, or with whatever comes up during camp; there will always be something to do!
Camp Shopper
Each year, we have a number of fun activities at camp that require ingredients and supplies! Are you a Costco frequent flyer? Love to find a good deal? We always need help shopping for cooking day supplies and overnight rations!
“Security”
New this year: We want someone to be on the camp road between the 2 gates, checking who is coming in and out of camp. As people enter, you will give them directions and let HQ know they are on their way. As people exit, you will make sure they have signed out appropriately. Perfect for someone who can be at camp, but needs to be working on other things throughout the day! Also perfect for someone who likes specific rules to follow!
